Flying fish escape flood waters

Humpty Doo Barramundi fish evacuated to escape floodwaters

About 25 tonnes of fresh saltwater barramundi was evacuated by helicopter when floodwaters submerged the roads into Humpty Doo Barramundi in February 2018.
“Our commitment to customers is to deliver our premium barramundi fresh, twice per week. We’ve built good relationships with our customers and they know they can rely on us to deliver on time,” says owner and Managing Director Bob Richards.
Humpty Doo Barramundi didn’t stop at airlifting fish out.
“The flood coincides with a delivery of new fingerling fish for our nursery,” says Bob. “So we will alternate flying fresh fish out and live baby fish in to the farm.” Bob expects to airlift approximately 300,000 baby fish onto the farm.
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past week saw floodwaters inundate the area and covering the main access road into the farm. However, the crew at Humpty Doo Barramundi knew just what to do. In February 2014, Humpty Doo Barramundi was cut off by flood waters and barramundi was airlifted from the farm before travelling by road as usual to interstate markets.
