Water reuse system a winner for Humpty Doo Barramundi

Sustainable water use is a big winner for Humpty Doo Barramundi. Not only does it ensure our water is of a high quality for our premium saltwater fish, it also won us an award at the recent Territory Natural Resource Management Awards.

A short bio on the winning project from the Territory Natural Resource Management website:

"Over the past 25 years, Bob Richards and the Humpty Doo Barramundi team have developed an intimate knowledge of the environment in which they farm and have forged a connection with the wildlife that inhabit the area. Since the first production ponds were established in 1993, the team at Humpty Doo Barramundi has transformed degraded rice fields into a sustainable production system with constructed wetlands performing as a closed biological recirculated water treatment system. This system performs to a standard where it can successfully maintain the conditions necessary for the maintenance and growth of over 1500 tonnes of barramundi each year with little to no exchange with the surrounding waters."

Sustainable food production is at the heart of the family behind Humpty Doo Barramundi. The Richards family has called the Northern Territory home for five generations, and plan to continue producing premium saltwater barramundi from this pristine environment for generations to come.
